Business Business Business

When it's time to talk business, I mean serious business it makes good sense to talk to those persons who have toiled, achieved and succeeded. They are the ones who have first hand knowledge about how things work.

Take for instance T&T's Kirk Thomas-Makeup Artist extraordinaire, or Jamaica's renown Tyrone Wilson- the Managing director of the electronic magazine company eZines- they can tell you about the sacrifices they had to make in order to get to where they are today.

One things for sure, entrepreneurs must learn to be communicative, curious, adaptable in order to cope with changing circumstances and most of all, be self motivated because without that inner drive to succeed when things go wrong, they'd give up.

On another wave length, look at Sir Richard Branson, Global entrepreneur. He is admired in may circles and today I want to highlight one of his very profound quotes....here goes:

" Every business, like a painting, operates according to its own rules. There are many ways to run a successful company. What works once may never work again. What everyone tells you never to do may just work, once. There are no rules. You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over, and it's because you fall over that you learn to save yourself from falling over. It's the greatest thrill in the world and it runs away screaming at the first sight of bullet points." Richard Branson

It takes special people to succeed at business. Persons who have a broad back and a very tough backbone. This is what sustains them when they fall. These persons are also like sponges, wherever they go, they absorb all the necessary knowledge that they'd need to make their business work.

They understand the necessity of planning ahead. Don't believe me, try doing a wedding with 300 guests without having any plans, even if you're an event planner, there would be chaos.

A plan allows you to see possible challenges that you will encounter, the opportunities that exists, any weaknesses you need to work on as well as the strengths you have working in your favor.

Anyways, these were my little tidbits today, hopefully, I encouraged you to think a little more about business.

PEACE out :)

KIRK THOMAS - MAKE UP ARTIST

Kirk Thomas really needs no introduction. If he looks familiar, well he is the beauty columnist for the Trinidad Guardian Woman Wise and Trinidad Express Woman Magazine. I'm truly amazed by Kirk's quality of work and his knowledge on makeup application.
Kirk Thomas
Let me give a little insight. Kirk is the Senior Makeup Artiste at the Hyatt Spa Esencia, Trinidad. He was the Lead Make Up Artist for Miss T&T Universe 2010, is currently the Head Make Up Artist for CNC3 and CNMG. In addition, he is also a Mac Makeup Artist. These are just a few of his responsibilities. Did someone say high end? He's affordable. He has a very wide range and does make up for almost any event you can think of. Weddings anyone?

I must say that I've had the experience of Kirk doing my makeup at the Hair & Beauty Trade show held at Crown Plaza couple years ago and I did not regret it. It was an amazing experience and the makeup was exceptional. He's optimistic, he explains, he recommends and is very salesmanship-oriented. Trust me when you're finished a session, you will leave wanting to purchase all the things he recommends. He definitely knows how to give value to his customers and keep them satisfied.

Applying Bridal Makeup

He holds regular makeup workshops which are intense but it really pays off especially if you want to improve your skills as an artist or learn to (DYI) do it yourself. Check out his Facebook page for more details.

Some awards he has under his belt include:
  • CFA - Caribbean Makeup Artist of the Year 2010/2011 Winner and
  • 2009 Nominee for Best Makeup Artist from the Caribbean
